Sunday Overnights: CBS Tops Modest Evening

Results for NBC Will Be Adjusted and Reissued

SUNDAY, JULY 23, 2017

What follows are the metered market household results by half-hour for Sunday, July23, 2017:

Household Rating/Share
CBS: 3.3/ 6, ABC: 3.1/ 6, NBC: 2.4/ 4, Fox: 0.8/ 1

Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:

NBC: +33, Fox: no change, CBS: – 3, ABC: -24

Ratings Breakdown:
Note: Due to NASCAR bleeding into primetime (until 9:02 ET), metered market (overnight) rating results for NBC will be adjusted and reissued.

CBS topped this fourth Sunday in July thanks to a repeat of “60 Minutes” and lead-out “Big Brother.” But a 4.0 rating/7 share in the household overnights for “Big Brother” at 8 p.m. (tied with “Celebrity Family Feud” on ABC) was wasted on episode three of lead-out game show “Candy Crush,” which slipped to a series-low 1.4/ 2 in the 9 p.m. hour.

ABC got some mileage out of game shows “Steve Harvey’s Funderdome” (#1: 2.7/ 5) and “The $100,000 Pyramid” (#1: 2.8/ 5) from 9-11 p.m. But NBC newsmagazine “Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly” continues to disappoint, as does competition “American Grit” on Fox (#4: 0.8/ 1 at 9 p.m.), which is not worthy of a third season.

  1. 6 hours for a NSCAR race is too long reason I don’t watch much NASCAR boring. Thought the final laps would go fast but they didn’t because of too many car crashes.

    • There’s a difference between the way FOX covers a NASCAR race and the way NBC covers a NASCAR race when the race is on a Red Flag weather delay. FOX shows coverage or highlights from a previous year’s race at the some track, while all NBC does is talk, talk, and talk. I switched channels at 7 PM so I could watch 60 Minutes and Big Brother before the 2nd Semifinal (Mexico vs Jamaica) started at 9 PM on Univision.
