Sunday Overnights: NCAA Basketball Primetime Overrun Lifts CBS

Ratings Breakdown:
Once again, ABC’s “American Idol” (4.5 rating/8 share) bested competing “World of Dance” (2.5/ 4) on NBC by a significant proportion in the household overnights (80 percent) from 8-10 p.m. But an approximate 45-minute primetime overrun for the ongoing NCAA Basketball Tournament on the East Coast led CBS to an above average Sunday victory (see below).

Elsewhere, NBC’s sophomore “Good Girls” continues to struggle at a mere 1.9/ 3 in the household overnights at 10 p.m. (#3), which trailed CBS’ combination of “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “Madam Secretary” (4.6/ 8) and ABC’s “Shark Tank” (2.7/ 5) by 59 percent and 30 percent, respectively.

The CW, meanwhile, had nothing unusual of note with its 8-10 p.m. pairing of “Supergirl” (#5: 0.9/ 1) and “Charmed” (#5: 0.6/ 1). And Fox’s combination of granddaddy “The Simpsons” and “Bob’s Burgers” (each 1.4/ 2) were basically off the overnight charts from 8-9 p.m. The remainder of the evening were repeat telecasts.
