The 42 to 36 victory for the Kansas City Chiefs over the Buffalo Bills in the NFL Divisional Playoffs on CBS proved the still value of the linear broadcast model. It averaged a massive (and very estimated) 34.50 million viewers and an 8.8 rating/48 share in adults 18-49 in the Sunday 7-10 p.m. ET block. The peak half-hour was 9:30 p.m. (at 37.29 million viewers and a 9.5/50 in the demo). And it led into a Sunday 10 p.m. edition of freshman “CSI: Hawaii” at a very approximate (and series high) 9.89 million viewers and a 2.2/17 in adults 18-49.
As always, results for any live event (sports, in particular) is always a rough estimate.
Elsewhere, no doubt, the results were slim. ABC featured its regularly scheduled Sunday night block: “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (Viewers: #2, 4.70 million; A18-49: #3, 0.4/ 3 at 7 p.m.). “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” (Viewers: #2, 3.96 million; A18-49: #2, 0.4/ 2 at 8 p.m.), “Supermarket Sweep” (Viewers: #2, 2.16 million; A18-49: #2t, 0.3/ 2 at 9 p.m.) and “The Rookie” (Viewers: #2, 2.73 million; A18-49: #2t, 0.3/ 2 at 10 p.m.).
NBC featured 2016 computer animated comedy “The Secret Life of Pets” (Viewers: #3, 1.37 million; A18-49: #2t, 0.3/ 2 from 8-10 p.m.) out of two repeat episodes of sitcom “American Auto” and into the Sunday 10 p.m. time period debut of “Dateline” (Viewers: #3, 2.17 million; A18-49: #2t, 0.3/ 3 at 10 p.m.).
Competition series “Legends of the Hidden Temple” concluded on The CW with a mere 226,000 at 8 p.m. into two episodes of anthology half-hour “Two Sentence Horror Stories” at an average 188,000 viewers. Both had no results in adults 18-49. And Fox was in repeats.
