Arguably the biggest moment at last night’s live telecast of annual “The Golden Globe Awards,” hosted by Ricky Gervais, was veteran Sylvester Stallone winning his first Golden Globe for reprising his iconic role as fighter – and now trainer – Rocky Balboa. Also memorable was a refined looking Lady Gaga cited for her role as The Countess on FX’s “American Horror Story: Hotel,” and Leonardo Di Caprio winning for drama “The Renevant (which was also named for Best Motion Picture Drama and Best Director). But, what felt awfully uncomfortable was Gervais announcing presenter Mel Gibson. Note to the producers of “The Golden Globes”: please don’t invite Ricky Gervais back again (or Mel Gibson for that matter).
Top honors for the television portion went to Amazon Comedy “Mozart in the Jungle” (which included a victory for Gael Garcia Bernal); USA drama “Mr. Robot,” which also resulted in a nod for former “series killer” Christian Slater; and “Wolf Hall” on PBS’ MASTERPIECE for Movie or Limited Series.
