The 92nd Academy Awards: ‘Parasite’ Named Best Picture

And the Winners Were...

“Parasite” was the surprise Best Picture winner at the 92nd “Academy Awards.” The South Korean-produced film was also cited or Best International Film, Best Director for Bong Joon-ho, and Best Original Screenplay. Historically, “Parasite” is now the first film not in the English language to win the night’s top prize.

Elsewhere, the winners were easier to predict with Joaquin Phoenix (“Joker”) and Renee Zellweger (“Judy”) named Best Actor and Actress; and Brad Pitt (“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”) and Laura Dern (“Marriage Story”) winning for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, respectively.

“We’re at our best when we support each other and (do) not cancel each other out. That is the best of humanity,” said Joaquin Phoenix in a long and passionate speech. Quoting a lyric by his late brother River, she said: “Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow.”
