A spinoff series from “The Batman” focused on villain The Penguin is reportedly in development at streamer HBO Max. Colin Farrell, who is set to play The Penguin in Matt Reeves’ theatrical “The Batman”, has been approached to star in the series, but a deal has not been made yet.

The proposed series will delve into The Penguin’s rise to power in the Gotham criminal underworld. Matt Reeves and the film’s producer Dylan Clark will executive produce the untitled Penguin series under their 6th & Idaho and Dylan Clark Productions banners, respectively. Warner Bros. Television will produce if it moves forward.

The Penguin, a.k.a. Oswald Cobblepot, was originally played by Burgess Meredith in the 1960s camp version on ABC. Danny DeVito inherited the role on the big screen and Robin Lord Taylor stepped in as The Penguin on Fox drama “Gotham.”
