Aladdin is set in a fictional world of Arabian city Agrabah and is centered on Aladdin, a mischievous thief, Jasmine, the charismatic princess of Agrabah, Jafar, the main antagonist and Genie, who lives in a lamp stolen by Aladdin. Aladdin managed to summon Genie and learns the entity can grant any wish he has. With hopes to capture Princess Jasmine’s heart, he learns Jafar has something malicious brewing up in the city of Agrabah. With the help of Jasmine and Genie, he has to suppress Jafar’s intentions before things get a bit messy.
Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Another Disney movie that showcases a powerful portrayal of independent women is none other than Beauty and the Beast. The movie’s success and notoriety can be judged by the fact that it was the first animated movie to score an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Beauty and the Beast doesn’t flaunt the world of extravagant princes and princesses. You don’t have to be a beast to act like one. The story is based on a journey towards salvation and each character beautifully knits together the journey which ultimately heads to its success.
Hercules (1997)
The Greek hero Hercules is portrayed in a comical touch by Disney in the studio’s 1997 movie, Hercules. The story revolves around Hercules, son of the gods Zeus and Hera. In every Greek methodology, there’s a god who isn’t too joyous of a new successor to the kingdom. Here the main antagonist is Zeus’ brother, Hades. He plans a scheme to kidnap Hercules and become the ruler of Olympus instead. He is successful in his evil scheme however, as Hercules grows up, he realizes his true potential. He isn’t meant to live like a mortal man. But what’s his real identity? He embarks on an adventure to find his identity and destiny.
