Streaming services give us a lot of freedom. If you enjoy a certain platform like Amazon, all you need is an internet provider and an Amazon Prime account to get access to a long list of your favorite movies and TV shows.
Luckily, Amazon also have their own original content they release on a regular basis to keep us interested. With that in mind, here are some of the most anticipated shows and movies to hit Amazon in 2020 to add to your list.
“Hunters”: February 21
“Hunters” features an all-star cast with two co-stars that fans have been waiting to see share a screen for a long time: Al Pacino and Logan Lerman! The show premiers on February 21 and will last 10 episodes, initially, at least.
The show revolves around a group of vigilantes in 1970s America. Their mission is simple: wipe out all the Nazis living in America at the time. The show follows the crew as they try to discern who’s a threat since the Nazis blend so well into daily life. The trailer highlights that the show is “based on true events” and comes from Monkeypaw Productions, Jordan Peele’s production company.
Pacino leads the cast as the vigilante group’s kingpin and a Holocaust-survivor with a personal vendetta to settle. Lerman enters the scene as the grandson of Pacino’s partner in crime – a character that’s already dead at the start of the series.
“Grantchester”: Season 4, February 25
“Grantchester” isn’t a new show – it already has three successful seasons under its belt. At the end of February, though, fans will finally be able to watch the fourth season of the show on their favorite streaming service. If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth binging the first few seasons to be ready for the release of the fourth.
The name Grantchester comes from the setting of the show – a small town of the same name. At large, the town is located in Cambridgeshire. The main character is actually a clergyman who realizes that there’s something fishy going on in the town and starts to investigate on his own. Fans were sad to see James Norton leave the show but this has left room for him to start his own show and for Tom Brittney and Robson Green share the spotlight on Grantchester.
“The Boys”: Season 2, 2020
In recent years, we’ve seen a resurgence of the comic book scene. After all, almost every Marvel or DC movie to come to theaters seems to become an overnight blockbuster hit. It’s a genre that appeals to all ages and usually has a general “good guy triumphs over bad guy in the end” formula.
However, “The Boys” on Amazon Prime decides to take a different look at these superheroes. What if instead of being benevolent and protective they used their power as a token of superiority? What if they used their enhancements to live like gods on Earth?
“The Boys” are a group within the show that are looking to expose these heroes for who they really are. All they have to do is expose the truth despite the fact that these superheroes, The Seven, have not only their own superpowers but the backing of a powerful organization as well.
“Carnival Row”: Season 2, 2020
“Carnival Row” already debuted with one successful season. The series throws the watcher into a fantasy world with steampunk vibes and neo-noir, political themes. It was created by Rene Echevarria and Travis Beacham with an all-star cast including Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne. Some big names to bring in viewers!
Despite the fantasy setting, the show doesn’t hold back on using real-world themes. The mythical creatures in the series have fled their homelands which the show describes as war-torn. As more and more move into the city to live side-by-side with humans, the tensions existing in the groups come to a rise.
Of course, since this is a fantasy show, there are plenty of extreme situations that you’d expect to find such as murder mysteries, unrequited love, and characters searching for power both as a villain and within themselves. Amazon announced production of the new season last year and we can safely expect it to come around soon in 2020.
Amazon Prime is a streaming service that offers plenty of original content as well as handing us access to our age-old favorites. Get set up in seconds by using your internet service, creating and account, and playing it through a streaming device like a Roku. If you’re looking for something new to watch on your favorite streaming service this year, make sure to check these out first!
