The Yankees and the Red Sox Add Another Benches-Clearing Brawl to Their Heated Rivalry

It’s a new baseball season but the bitterness between longstanding rival baseball clubs Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees remains.

  • During the seventh inning of the Apr. 11 game at Boston’s Fenway Park, Red Sox relief pitcher Joe Kelly drilled Yankees infielder Tyler Austin in his back with a pitch, in retaliation for a spikes-up slide Austin had made at second base in the third inning:

    And thus, the brawl ensued, clearing both teams’ benches. Take a look:

    Kelly, Austin and Yankees third base coach Phil Nevin were all tossed out of the game as a result.
