The Chicago Bears earned one of the NFL’s most surprising wins of the season so far, defeating the Green Bay Packers 17-14 at Lambeau Field on the night the Packers retired the jersey number of their legendary quarterback Brett Favre. Not surprising, of course, was NBC’s overwhelming prime time victory on this Thanksgiving Thursday night.
Since the advent of prime time Thanksgiving NFL games in 2006, Bears-Packers (Women 18-34: 6.2/28; Men 18-34: 8.9/37; Women 18-49: 6.7/25; Men 18-49: 11.3/37) is the most-watched prime time Thanksgiving NFL game to-date and is also the second most-watched NFL game ever on NBC, behind only Dallas-Washington from Dec. 30, 2012 (30.3 million).
The Packers’ halftime ceremony honoring Brett Favre (10:15-10:30 p.m. ET), which featured a memorable appearance by Hall of Fame Green Bay quarterback Bart Starr, averaged 28.2 million viewers.
Top metered markets for Bears-Packers: Milwaukee 44.1/72, Chicago 29.8/57, Minneapolis 28.1/52, Las Vegas 21.0/37, Denver 19.5/40, Buffalo 19.3/34, New Orleans 19.0/31, Indianapolis 17.9/33, Norfolk 17.0/30, Phoenix 16.8/32
Earlier in the late afternoon on CBS, Carolina Panthers-Dallas Cowboys drew the NFL’s highest rating on Thanksgiving since Packers/Lions on Fox in 2011 (15.8). The game is the most-watched telecast of the 2015-16 television season overall to-date.
In the Charlotte market, Thursday’s game averaged a 31.5 rating and a 66 share, topping the previous high share for a Panthers game in Charlotte (62, at New Orleans, 2013).
The night’s other original offerings were, as follows:
CBS’s “Life in Pieces” (Women 18-34: 1.3/6; Men 18-34: 1.4/6; Women 18-49: 2.0/7; Men 18-49: 2.2/7)
CBS’s “Mom” (Women 18-34: 1.1/5; Men 18-34: 1.1/4; Women 18-49: 1.7/6; Men 18-49 1.6/5)
CBS’s “2 Broke Girls” (Women 18-34: 1.0/5; Men 18-34: 1.0/4; Women 18-49: 1.6/6; Men 18-49 1.5/5)
CBS’s “Elementary” (Women 18-34: 0.6/3; Men 18-34: 0.7/3; Women 18-49: 1.0/4; Men 18-49: 1.0/3)
Fox’s “All-Star Dog Rescue Celebration” (Women 18-34: 0.3/1; Men 18-34: 0.2/1; Women 18-49: 0.4/2; Men 18-49: 0.4/1)
