Thursday Final Nationals: Fox Wins Night with ‘American Idol’, MSNBC Draws Least-Watched Prime Time Debate of Election Season To-Date

Fox won Thursday night all-around, thanks to another 2-hour edition of “American Idol.”

While MSNBC’s “Democratic Presidential Debate” featuring Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders — the first one-on-one debate — was the most watched cable program of the night, it was the least watched presidential prime time debate — of either political party — of this election season.

  1. Visitors requesting ratings are only allowed a MAXIMUM of TWO shows per query. You cannot make additional requests until the prior ones you had made are addressed.

With the exception of broadcast network half-hours, time-block requests will not be answered. Requests also won’t be fulfilled for a network’s show rankings nor telecasts of marathons longer than two-hour periods.

Please note Programming Insider will not answer any request for a show’s ratings prior to November 16, 2015. If you are requesting prior dates’ numbers from Nov. 16 or later, you MUST post your query as a comment at that respective date’s ratings page via http://programminginsider.com/category/ratings/

  2. Shades of Blue renewed for Season 2. I wonder if it lands on the fall schedule or midseason again with a shorter order.

  3. @SonOfTheBronx:disqus, I don’t have any requests today, but I have something I need to tell you. I am a Wikipedia editor, and since Wikipedia has the largest collection of television ratings anywhere, I am constantly adding new ratings content to Wikipedia pages. There are quite a number of times when I’ve linked to your Disqus comments as a source for ratings, (especially the L+7’s I used to request), but now the validity of the numbers has come under question by another user who has brought it to a noticeboard.

They have no problem recognizing you as a reliable source anymore (I made it pretty clear who you are and what you do); however, they do not like fact that the numbers came from a Disqus comment. I was just wondering if there is anything you can say to these people (just leave a reply to this comment, and I can link to here) to help ease their concerns. I personally don’t understand the problem myself, but there are enough people with concerns that I feel like I need to come to you directly.

I know this is a lot to take in, and if you want to read the noticeboard discussion it is here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Bones_.28season_11.29

I’m sorry to bring you into this, but Wikipedia is at risk of losing some great ratings content simply because of one stubborn editor. Thank you for your help!

    • The only other time I’ve been aware of similar issues there was when the folks at my previous employer TVMI had a scuffle with some at that site around the time TVMI had launched. Same thing — questioning the validity of sourcing. I never directly had correspondence with users like those on that site and from reading how they handle matters (I heard they were very, very rude), I’m not looking to address them.

But I thank you very much for referring to us on there and please continue doing so. Marc and I stand by all the data we post as Nielsen-sourced and if others question it, that’s their problem.

      • Oh I will definitely continue referencing Programming Insider on Wikipedia, and I’m working very hard to get others to understand my viewpoint. I have never once questioned the validity of your information, but there are other people (less-experienced with ratings) who are just simply turned off because the information is in the form of a comment.

Thank you again for everything you do, and I will keep fighting this, because the information you provide is really important.

      • SonOfTheBronx, just wanted to let you know that I’ve been arguing this on Wikipedia all day today, and finally, I got this reply:

“My concerns about accuracy have been assuaged”

So we’re all A-okay here on the Wiki. Just wanted to let you know. Thanks again for everything you do!
