Thursday Overnights: ‘Fam’ on CBS Concludes Season (or Series) on a Modest Note

Week Two of CW Drama 'In the Dark' Loses Considerable Steam

Thursday, April 11, 2019

Household Rating/Share
ABC: 3.8/ 7, CBS: 3.6/ 6, NBC: 2.1/ 4, Fox: 1.5/ 3, CW: 0.7/ 1

Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
ABC: -10, NBC: -12, CW: -22, CW: -25, CBS: -35

Ratings Breakdown:
With “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS (two episodes last night) in repeats, ABC took the lead in the household overnights. Veteran “Grey’s Anatomy” topped the night at a 5.2 rating/10 share at 8 p.m., followed by spin-off “Station 19” (#1t: 3.9/ 7 at 9 p.m.) and sophomore legal drama “For the People” (#3: 2.5/ 5 at 10 p.m.). Chances of a third season for “For the People” is very unlikely.

In season (or series) finale news, CBS sitcom “Fam” closed with a typical 3.5/ 6 in the household overnights at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, this was 15 percent below a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” at 9 p.m. (#1: 4.1/ 7), and “Fam,” overall, performed no better than fall time period occupant “Murphy Brown.” In other words, do not expect a renewal for either “Fam” or “Murphy Brown.”

The remainder of the evening for CBS was repeats.

Elsewhere, NBC’s main obstacle remains its sluggish Thursday sitcom slate, which last night featured the return of already renewed “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#4: 1.4/ 2 at 9 p.m.) in place of “Will & Grace” (which concluded for the season). Week three of lead-out “Abby’s” dipped to a 1.3/ 2. Week two of The CW drama “In the Dark” dipped to a mere 0.5/ 1 in households at 9 p.m., which was a two-tenth of a rating point (or 29 percent) slip from the 0.7/ 1 opener one week earlier. And Fox was in repeats.

  1. Horrible showing for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, losing out to The Orville on Fox. You gotta wonder if NBC is reconsidering its two-year renewal!
