Thursday Ratings: Historical Low-Rated Winter Olympics Coverage

As always, fast affiliate results for any live event (sports, in particular) are always approximate. That said, early coverage for the Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022 on NBC led the night with 7.39 million viewers and a 1.2 rating/10 share in adults 18-49. But that is a stark contrast to the 28.3 million viewers who tuned in for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang. This sets the stage, of course, for a potentially historically low-rated Olympics – Winter or Summer.

Elsewhere, night two of “Celebrity Big Brother”, which was surrounded by repeats, dipped to 2.56 million viewers (#2) and a 0.5/ 3 in the demo (#2) at 9 p.m. Two back-to-back episodes of ABC’s “Soul of a Nation Presents” averaged a modest 1.97 million viewers (#3) and a 0.2/ 2 in the adults 18-49 in the Thursday 8-10 p.m. block. And Fox could not compete with its line-up of the unnecessary reboot of “Joe Millionaire” (Viewers: #4, 1.65 million; A18-49: #3t, 0.3/ 2 from 8-9 p.m.), and sitcoms “Call Me Kat” (Viewers: #3, 1.77 million; A18-49: #3, 0.3/ 2 at 9 p.m.) and “Pivoting” (Viewers: #4, 1.18 million; A18-49: #3t, 0.2. 1 at 9:30 p.m.).
