In 1983, U.S. astronaut Guion S. Bluford, Jr. became the first African American to travel into space, serving as a mission specialist aboard the shuttle orbiter Challenger. He later flew on three other missions...Rosa Parks was robbed and beaten by Joseph Skipper in 1994. Parks was known for her refusal to give up her seat on a bus in 1955, which sparked the civil rights movement.
