Delta Burke’s then current weight struggle was addressed in 1989 in a “Designing Women” episode titled “They Shoot Fat Women, Don’t They?” The plot featured Suzanne Sugarbaker attending her high school reunion and being shunned because of her weight gain…The original “Magnum, P.I.” starring Tom Selleck premiered on CBS in 1980. It aired for eight seasons and can currently be seen on Great Entertainment Television…In 1993, HBO premiered its remake of the campy classic “Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman,” with Daryl Hannah as the lead.

Movies:
Elvis Presley’s “Blue Hawaii” album went No. 1 and stayed there for 20 weeks beginning in 1961…“Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”, directed by Stanley Kramer, starring Spencer TracyKatharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy premiered in New York City in 1967. Hepburn won the Academy Award that year for Best Actress (her second trophy of four in that category)…”Wall Street” directed by Oliver Stone and starring Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen opened in 1987. Douglas won the Oscar for Best Actor.

Music:
Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh’s musical “Wildcat” with Lucille Ball opened on Broadway in New York City in 1960.

Sports:
Tiger Woods announced an indefinite leave from professional golf to focus on his marriage in 2009.

Oscar winner Rita Moreno is 92; singer Jermaine Jackson is 70; Oscar winner Mo’Nique (“Precious”) is 56; rapper Mos Def is 50; “Boy Meets World” star Rider Strong is 44.

Did You Know?
Delta Burke was the favorite to win Best Actress in a Comedy Series for “Designing Women” in that 1989-90 season. But the trophy went, once again, to Candice Bergen for “Murphy Brown.”
