Musical/variety series “The Sammy Kaye Show” concluded on CBS in 1959…NBC’s “Tomorrow Coast to Coast” aired one of the most famous interviews of host Tom Snyder’s career: his sit-down with Charles Manson in 1981. Manson was sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in the 1969 murders of nine people…Crime drama “The Closer” starring Kyra Sedgwick as the CIA-trained Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson debuted on TNT in 2005. It lasted seven seasons and spun-off “Major Crimes” with Mary McDonnell in August 2012.

Movies:
“Lolita”, based on Vladimir Nabokov’s novel, directed by Stanley Kubrick, and starring James Mason and Sue Lyon opened in theaters in 1962…Deborah Harry and Meat Loaf musical comedy “Roadie” opened in 1980…“Prizzi’s Honor”, starring Jack Nicolson, Kathleen Turner, and Anjelica Huston was released in 1985. Huston won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

Music:
George Harrison released single “This Is Love” in 1988…“Jagged Little Pill”, the third studio album by Alanis Morissette was released in 1995. It won the Grammy for Album of the Year.

News:
“The New York Times” began publishing excerpts from the Pentagon Papers, classified documents on the long history of the U.S. in Vietnam in 1971…After a 14-week trial that became a media circus, American pop singer Michael Jackson was acquitted of child-molestation charges in 2005.

Although Geri Reischl as “Fake Jan” on “The Brady Bunch Hour” is synonymous with another actor inheriting an established role, there was also a “Fake John Boy.” Three seasons after Richard Thomas departed from “The Waltons, Robert Wightman took over as the eldest Walton sibling in the eighth and ninth seasons. Thankfully, Thomas returned for the three reunion movies on CBS in the 1990s. At age 72, Richard Thomas is older than Will Greer was as the grandfather, Zebulon Walton, when “The Waltons” began in 1972.
