Tuesday Final Nationals: TNT Leads Prime Time Among Young Adults on NBA Opening Night

Three networks had a share of Tuesday night leadership: CBS in total viewers (10.96 million), NBC among adults 25-54 (2.6 rating/8 share), and TNT, courtesy of an NBA Opening Night doubleheader oh Boston Celtics at Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets at Golden State Warriors, among adults 18-49 and adults 18-34.

Overall, TNT’s NBA Opening Night doubleheader averaged 4.9 million viewers for an increase of 53 percent over the comparable games last year. Last night’s doubleheader netted the network’s most-watched NBA Opening Night coverage since 2010.

Additionally, TNT’s NBA Opening Night doubleheader delivered significant audience increases across all core demos including 53 percent increase in adults 18-49 and growth of 47 percent in adults 18-34 and 44 percent in males 18-34.

TNT’s Celtics/Cavs telecast peaked with an average of 6.7 million viewers from 10:15-10:30 p.m. ET. Top local markets included Cleveland (20.1 household rating), Columbus, Ohio (8.3 household rating) and Boston (7.8 household rating).

TNT’s Rockets/Warriors telecast averaged 4.2 million viewers, up 22 percent over the network’s comparable game (Spurs-Warriors on Oct. 25, 2016) last year. Locally, the game earned a 14.8 household rating in San Francisco as the top-ranked metered market.
