Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led this atypical evening, which again is approximate by individual show due to President Trump’s live speech and the Democratic response in the 9 p.m. half-hour. If anything, ABC sitcom “The Conners” remains the real deal at a solid 5.1/ 8 in the household overnights in the 8 p.m. half-hour. But freshman lead-out “The Kids Are Alright,” which is worthy of a larger audience, dipped to a third-place 3.2/ 5 at 8:30 p.m.

In season-premiere news was NBC’s now sophomore “Ellen’s Game of Games,” which scored a third-place 4.1/ 7 in the 8 p.m. hour. Comparably, that was 18 percent the 5.0/ 8 on the year-ago evening.
