Tuesday Overnights: CBS Wins; NBC the Net to Beat in Adults 18-49; ABC Gets a ‘Bachelor’ Lift

'Kevin (Probably) Saves the World' on ABC Concludes on a Modest Note

TUESDAY, MARCH 6, 2018

Household Rating/Share
CBS: 6.8/11, NBC: 5.8/10, ABC: 4.5/ 8, Fox: 2.2/ 3, CW: 1.4/ 2

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
ABC: +80, Fox: +47, CBS: – 4, CW: – 7, NBC: – 9

Ratings Breakdown:
CBS, as always, led the Tuesday household overnights with its line-up of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 8.3 rating/13 share at 8 p.m.), sophomore “Bull” (#1: 6.5/10 at 9 p.m.) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (#1: 5.6/10 at 10 p.m.). But NBC remains the network to beat in adults 18-49 (and the key demographics) care of its combination of “The Voice” (#2: 6.5/11 at 8 p.m.), which has settled in for another solid edition; sophomore “This Is Us” (#2: 6.2/10 at 9 p.m.), which concludes for the season next week; and “Chicago Med” (#2: 4.6/ 8 at 10 p.m.).

Given the size of the ensemble on “This Is Us,” my personal preference is to focus on the core characters.

Opposite “The Bachelor: The Final Rose” on ABC (#3: 5.9/ 9 from 8-10 p.m., which was a double-digit percent increase over the regularly scheduled two-hour Tuesday sitcom block), “This Is Us” was actually down by 19 percent year-to-year.

In season (or series) finale news, ABC’s freshman “Freshman (Probably) Saves the World,” which was a noble effort, was left in the dust at a distant third-place 1.8/ 3 in the household overnights at 10 p.m. Chances are you will not see a second season of this Jason Ritter vehicle.

Elsewhere, recent entry “Black Lightning” on The CW (#5: 1.2/ 2 at 9 p.m.) should have no trouble snagging a second season pick-up. Comparably, this was a slight improvement over “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” on the year-ago evening (1.1/ 2 on 3/07/17), and the overnight retention out of lead-in “The Flash” (#5: 1.6/ 3 at 8 p.m.) was acceptable at 75 percent.

Fox, meanwhile, had nothing unusual to report with its combination of “Lethal Weapon” (#4: 2.8/ 5 at 8 p.m.) and 9-10 p.m. sitcoms “LA to Vegas” (#5: 1.3/ 2) and “The Mick” (#4: 1.3/ 2).
