Tuesday, February 19, 2019

Household Rating/Share
CBS: 6.3/11, NBC: 4.5/ 9, ABC: 2.5/ 4, Fox: 1.8/ 3, CW: 0.5/ 1

Note: Change versus the year-ago evening is excluded due to the Winter Olympics airing.

Ratings Breakdown:
It was another Tuesday household overnight sweep for CBS care of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 8.2 rating/14 share at 8 p.m.), freshman “FBI” (6.0/10 at 9 p.m.) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (4.7/ 9 at 10 p.m.). But the strength of “This Is Us” (#2: 5.5/ 9 at 9 p.m.), featuring a Beth-centric episode, should be more than enough to give NBC a victory in adults 18-49. Note to the Emmy voters: Remember Phylicia Rashad as Beth’s (Susan Kelechi Watson) mother Carol in the category of Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was “Ellen’s Game of Games,” which earned its renewal for 2019-20 with a 3.9/ 7 in the household overnights in the Wednesday 8 p.m. hour. And freshman Peacock net drama “New Amsterdam” capped off the evening with a second place 4.0/ 7 at 10 p.m., which was 48 percent above ABC’s competing “The Rookie” (#3: 2.7/ 5).

Over at ABC, “The Kids Are Alright” certainly misses its recent “The Conners” lead-in. The “Wonder Years”-like freshman sitcom slid to a 2.4/ 4 at 8:30 p.m., which was 23 percent below new (and weaker) lead-in “American Housewife” (#3: 3.1/ 5 at 8 p.m.). The alphabet net also did not impress in the 9 p.m. hour care of “black-ish” (#3: 2.2/ 4) and likely-to-be canceled “Splitting Up Together” (#3: 1.8/ 3 at 9:30 p.m.).

Fox, meanwhile, was at typical modest Wednesday overnight levels with “Lethal Weapon” (#4: 2.3/ 4 at 8 p.m.) and “The Gifted” (#4: 1.3/ 2 at 9 p.m.). Both dramas are unlikely to return next season. And The CW was in repeats as follows:

  1. I bet ABC is kicking themselves for not going with that the middle spin-off with Sue Heck now after the loss of Roseanne and the much weaker numbers for The Conners as its Tuesday night line-up is really tanking. Also perplexing is the loss of viewers that This is Us is experiencing. It seems to have lost its lustrous glow.
