Tuesday Overnights: Clean Sweep for CBS; NBC the Net to Beat in Adults 18-49

It was a clean household overnight sweep for CBS with its line-up of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 9.1 rating/15 share at 8 p.m.), “Bull” (7.1/11 at 9 p.m.) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (6.0/11 at 10 p.m.). But NBC is still the network to beat in adults 18-49 thanks, in particular, to sophomore “This Is Us,” which scored a solid 6.5/10 in the household overnights in the 9 p.m. hour. Comparably, that increased from already renewed lead-in “Ellen’s Game of Games” (#2: 4.5/ 7 at 8 p.m.) by 44 percent.

At 10 p.m. on NBC was reliable “Chicago Med” at a second-place 4.5/ 8, which is also expected to win the time period in the key demo groups.

In week two news, “Black Lightning” on The CW scored a respectable 1.5/ 2 at 9 p.m., which was just 12 percent below its debut one week earlier (1.7/ 3 on Jan. 16) and it increased by 25 percent from year-ago time period occupant “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” (1.2/ 2 on 1/24/17). “Black Lightning” also held a solid 88 percent of its “The Flash” lead-in (1.7/ 3 at 8 p.m.). In other words, get used to “Black Lightning.” It is here to stay.

Elsewhere, Fox scored a typical Tuesday in the household overnights care of “Lethal Weapon” (#5: 1.7/ 3 at 8 p.m.), recent sitcom entry “LA to Vegas” (#3t: 2.0/ 3 at 9 p.m.) and relocated “The Mick” (#4t: 1.5/ 2 at 9:30 p.m.). And ABC was in all repeats with its combination of comedies “The Middle” (#4: 2.7/ 4), “Fresh Off the Boat” (#4: 1.9/ 3), “black-ish” (##t: 2.0/ 3) and “Modern Family” (#3: 1.8/ 3), and a Tuesday 10 p.m. edition of “The Match Game” (#3: 1.6/ 3).
