Ratings Breakdown:
There were two non-scripted series premieres last night: “Love Island” on CBS and “Bring the Funny” on NBC. The 90-minute “Love Island” opener, which will air each weeknight at 8 p.m. ET for the next month, was left at the overnight starting gate with a mere 1.9 rating/3 share in households from 8-9:30 p.m. By the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, “Love Island” sunk to a 1.6/ 3.

“Bring the Funny” fared considerably better with a dominant 4.2/ 8 in households in the 10 p.m. hour. Comparably, this was more than double the 2.1/ 4 for competing “ Blood & Treasure” on CBS, and this was 62 percent above the 2.6/ 5 for “Songland” in the time period one week earlier. Of course, “Bring the Funny” benefited from the lead-in support from “America’s Got Talent,” which led the night with a 6.9/13 in the overnight households from 8-10 p.m.

Elsewhere, the 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Fox, which concluded at 11:08 p.m. ET, averaged a 6.0/10 for the 8-10 p.m. portion. Comparably, this was nine percent below the 6.6/12 for the year-ago telecast (on Tuesday, July 17, 2018).
