TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2018

Household Rating/Share
CBS: 6.2/11, NBC: 5.1/ 9, ABC: 3.1/ 5, Fox and The CW: 1.1/ 2 each

-Percent Change From the Year-Ago Evening:
CBS: – 2, NBC: – 4, CW: -15, ABC: -40, Fox: -45

Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this third Wednesday in November in the household overnights care of its combination of dramas “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 7.8 rating/13 share at 8 p.m.), “FBI” (#1: 5.9/10) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (#1: 4.9/ 9). But NBC is the network to beat in adults 18-49 (and all the key demo groups) thanks to “The Voice” (#: 5.4/10 at 8 p.m.), “This is Us” (#2: 5.8/10 at 9 p.m.), which will be the top draw in the demos, and freshman drama “New Amsterdam” (#2: 4.0/ 8 at 10 p.m.).

On ABC, “The Conners” remained consistent at a healthy 5.0/ 9 (#3), which was 28 percent above the 3.9/ 7 for year-ago time period occupant “The Middle.” At this point, the novelty has worn off and you can consider “The Conners” the real deal.

Recent ABC entry “The Kids Are Alright,” which is happily reminiscent of “The Wonder Years,” slipped to a 3.0/ 5 at 8:30 p.m., which was 40 percent below “The Conners.” Note to the writers of “The Kids Alright”: If last night’s episode was set in the summer of 1972 as mentioned, it made no sense to make reference to John-Boy. John-Boy, of course, was played by Richard Thomas on “The Waltons,” and that family drama did not debut until September 14, 1972.

Also on ABC was the low-rated 9-11 p.m. combination of sitcoms “black-ish” (#3: 2.6/ 4) and “Splitting Up Together” (#3: 2.1/ 4) and freshman drama “The Rookie” (#3: 3.0/ 5).

The CW featured “The Flash” (#4: 1.4/ 2 at 8 p.m.) into “Black Lightning” (#5: 0.8/ 1 at 9 p.m.) and Fox was in repeats.

  1. Thank you! I caught the John Boy line too.. I immediately verified my hunch on wikipedia and was willing to consider the line might have been in “The Homecoming” movie of 1971 but doubted the impact on pop culture would have raised it to the status that a “hip” teen in 1972 would be dropping it in casual conversation. Glad I was not the only one to catch it!

  2. For the record, the character of John Boy played by Richard Thomas started on the TV-movie that inspired The Waltons series called The Homecoming: A Christmas Story, which debuted December 19, 1971.

  3. If you had watched the 3rd episode of The Kids Are Alright, you’d know it took place in October. “Boxing”, the episode with the John Boy reference, was the 5th episode. So, they were not wrong! Their Christmas episode is coming up soon, so stay tuned!
