TV Land Cancels ‘Lopez’ and ‘Throwing Shade’

TV Land has issued pink slips to sitcom “Lopez,” which aired for two seasons and starred George Lopez and late night comical discussion show “Throwing Shade.” Additionally, comedy “Nobodies,” produced by Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone, will move to the upcoming Paramount Network, which launches in January as a rebranding of Spike TV. That leaves TV Land with only two scripted shows: “Younger” and “Teachers.”

“Lopez,” which debuted on March 30, 2016, featured George Lopez as a version of himself — a stand-up comedian trying to stay true to his roots in the Latino community. And “Throwing Shade,” which ran for only one season, was based on the podcast of the same name hosted by Erin Gibson and Bryan Safi that featured the duo as they took on topics that included women’s rights and LGBTQ rights, politics and pop culture. It finished its run in February.
