  1. FROM ABC

ABC Sunday Prime (7-11pm – 6.6 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49) With a repeat Funniest Home Videos leading into its Sunday game show premieres against an Olympics sports-boosted NBC, ABC won Sunday in Total Viewers (6.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.3/5).

    · ABC’s premieres of $100,000 Pyramid (1.7/5), Celebrity Family Feud (1.5/6) and Match Game (1.5/5) ranked as the Top 3 broadcasts of the evening in Adults 18-49 (tied w/Big Brother’s 1.5/5), respectively. In addition, $100,000 Pyramid (8.0 million) and Celebrity Family Feud (7.8 million) stood as Sunday’s Top 2 most watched shows overall, respectively. ABC’s $100,000 Pyramid also opened as the summer’s #1 new show in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

Celebrity Family Feud (8-9pm – 7.8 million and 1.5/6 in AD18-49): Launching over its repeat Funniest Home Videos lead-in at 8pm (+95%/+150%) against NBC’s Olympic Trials and CBS’ Big Brother Sunday premiere, ABC’s second season premiere of Celebrity Family Feud ranked #1 in its hour with Total Viewers (7.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.5/6-tie). The ABC game show built by double digits from its first half-hour to its second half-hour in Total Viewers (+11%) and Adults 18-49 (+21%).

    $100,000 Pyramid (9-10pm – 8.0 million and 1.7/5 in AD18-49): Building on its lead-in at 9pm (+3%/+13%), ABC’s $100,000 Pyramid dominated its nearest broadcast competition in the hour by 2.6 million viewers (8.0 million vs. 5.4 million – CBS) and 21% in Adults 18-49 (1.7/5 vs. 1.4/4 – NBC).

    · ABC’s $100,000 Pyramid drew ABC’s biggest summertime (Memorial Day-Labor Day) audience to the time period with regular programming in 11 years – since 6/26/05.

Match Game (10-11pm – 6.7 million and 1.5/5 in AD18-49): At 10pm, ABC’s Match Game debut won its hour over NBC’s Olympic Trials in Total Viewers (6.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.5/5).

    · Match Game pulled ABC’s largest summer audience in the time slot with regular programming in nearly 10 years and tied the highest young adult number in 4 years – since 8/20/06 and 7/8/12, respectively.

  2. It feels so good to see the broadcast networks except FOX all have a good night on a Sunday in the summertime against big-time cable programming in Game of Thrones finale and BET Awards.

ABC had a really great night but I have to be selfish here and say that I was honestly expecting more from them due to the NBA Finals promotion but Match Game was the only one that exceeded my expectations due to its timeslot. Still thought they did well enough to come in first and based on how the Tuesday lineup bombed for them this is definitely a success. It was smart that ABC gave Celebrity Family Feud some help with other game shows behind it.

One thing ABC can look at if these game shows hold up all summer is to bring in a few more reboots like Card Sharks, Blockbusters, Password, or Press Your Luck. ABC can also use these shows during the regular season to lead-off their lineups I think ABC’s comedy state is about to turn into the next NBC after Modern Family and The Middle ends so they can use game shows to replace them. Hopefully ABC doesn’t overexpose them though that’s the one thing that will kill them.

I’m more of a fan of the older game shows than the newer ones so I find myself spending a few hours during the week watching that channel Buzzr which makes you feel like you’re watching those game shows back in the 70s and 80s. GSN is nowhere near the network that it used to be and Buzzr does it so right. Once GSN started bringing in the newer game shows that’s when they started falling off.

  3. Big Brother was steady, I never watch the CBS edits but I’m enjoying what I’m seeing so far this season on After Dark. That Bronte is entertaining to me because she seems crazy.

Glad to see the Olympic Trials and P&G Championships coverage up for NBC as I knew the weekend had more to do with the lower numbers although they were still decent to me. Gymnastics proved it’s still a powerhouse and with them having so many stars on that team drawing from diverse demographics like Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas drawing in the black viewers and now Laurie Hernandez drawing in the Spanish audiences they will have another relevant team going into the Olympics.

The Trials on July 8th and July 10th for Gymnastics will do huge numbers like in 2012. P&G in Olympic years usually doesn’t do this well or anywhere near it mainly because it airs on Saturday nights so NBC made the smart decision to air it on a Sunday night. They should do the same with figure skating in Olympic years for the US Championships in January 2018. Put it on the Sunday between the Golden Globes and Conference NFL Championship games.

Also better outing out of diving and swimming will do very well as the week goes plus Michael Phelps swims later in the week and I believe Missy Franklin too.
