Do you know fibroid uterus symptoms? If not, would you like us to assist you in understanding uterine fibroid symptoms? From USA Fibroid Center, we will help you. Read below.

What are Uterine Fibroids? Can I identify uterine fibroid symptomsIn benign tumors originating from the uterus’s smooth muscle tissue, uterine fibroids appear as nodular growths. Their dimensions can range from a few millimeters to several centimeters (10-15 cm) and even cover the uterus in the most severe cases. Uterine fibroids can be of three types – subserous, intramural or submucous – depending on the affected uterine layer and the direction in which they develop.

How to figure out uterine fibroid symptoms?

Uterine fibroids are hormone-dependent, so estrogen and progesterone facilitate their growth. Sometimes fibroids are discovered incidentally during follow-up gynecological exams or tests for other health problems. In any case, the diagnosis of uterine fibroids at the USA Fibroid Center is made through history, physical examination and tests such as ultrasound, CT, MRI and hysterosalpingography.

Fibroid uterus symptoms as soon as they appear to need treatment. The treatment for fibroid uterus can be pharmacological, oriented towards resolving uterine fibroid symptoms, or surgical, oriented towards removing the fibroids or the entire uterus.

Uterine fibroids are almost always benign and rarely (less than one in 1,000) develop into cancerous fibroids. However, since the causes of the development of uterine fibroids are not yet known, there are no methods of prevention to avoid their appearance, which is why it is essential to undergo periodic checks at the USA Fibroid Center.

Causes of uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids develop when a single cell of the smooth muscle tissue of the uterus repeatedly reproduces into a distinct mass from the surrounding tissue. The underlying causes, however, are not yet clear, although genetic predisposition and susceptibility to hormonal stimulation may play a role.

Uterine fibroid symptoms:

In about half of the cases, uterine fibroids are asymptomatic. Over half of the women do not experience Fibroid uterus symptoms, however the remaining half experience annoying and disabling disorders – which vary according to the size and location of the fibroids, such as:

  • Abundant and frequent menses
  • Bleeding between periods
  • Chronic vaginal discharge
  • Severe, acute or chronic weight or pelvic pain
  • Bloating and abdominal distension
  • Dysmenorrhea
  • Dyspareunia
  • Lower back or leg pain.
  • Urinary symptoms (e.g. pollakiuria, urinary urgency or urinary incontinence and rarely inability to urinate): may result from bladder compression
  • Intestinal symptoms (e.g. constipation): can result from intestinal compression.
  • Pregnancy-related problems: difficulty getting pregnant (rarely), recurrent miscarriage, premature contractions, impaired fetal growth, abnormal fetal, and need for cesarean delivery.
  • Postpartum hemorrhage

Treatment of uterine fibroids

The most suitable type of treatment is chosen based on the medical history, the physical examination and the results obtained with the diagnostic investigations (dimensions, number and location of the fibroids).

Asymptomatic fibroids do not need any treatment. Furthermore, in perimenopausal women, you can wait (phase of watchful waiting) and monitor the situation because the symptoms generally resolve with the reduction in the fibroid size after menopause. While uterine fibroids aren’t usually dangerous, they can cause discomfort and can lead to complications, such as:

  • Difficulty getting pregnant: if the fibroids grow, they can block the uterus and fallopian tubes, making it more challenging to get pregnant
  • Abnormal attachment or detachment of the placenta
  • Increased risk of miscarriage
  • Increased risk of preterm birth
  • Labor that does not progress
  • Cesarean delivery
  • Kidney damage
