VPNRanks’ Report Highlights Widespread VPN User Dissatisfaction

An innovative study that taps into the insights contained in user reviews has identified widespread dissatisfaction with the quality of service being provided by the global VPN industry. The study was conducted by VPNRanks to provide the business world with a comprehensive and unbiased review of VPN services. Among its key findings is the revelation that 89 percent of VPNs fail to meet user satisfaction standards globally.

VPNRanks is a leading consumer support platform created to guide, protect, and empower users as they seek to navigate the vast and complicated VPN universe. Its first-of-its-kind study uses AI-driven sentiment analysis to determine the level of satisfaction customers have with the world’s top VPN providers. The study evaluated reviews of 93 paid VPN companies to establish a VPNScore based on key metrics.

“VPNScore is not just our opinion; it’s a reflection of the true sentiments of actual VPN users based on user reviews and their real experiences with each VPN service,” said Muhammad Saleem Ahrar, COO of webAffinity, the company behind VPNRanks. “In an era where data breaches and cyber threats are increasingly common, the demand for reliable VPN services is surging. That’s why we created VPNScore to help consumers seeking trustworthy reviews navigate the complex VPN market.”

The advanced methodology VPNRanks used to determine VPNScores was developed by webAffinity, a technology-focused and AI-driven growth network with over a decade of experience in the content marketing industry. The Affinite Scoring System, as the methodology is known, is a customizable analysis and scoring tool that can be adapted to provide insights on any product, brand, industry, or publication niche.

“VPNScore is our groundbreaking evaluation technology that extensively mines user-centric data to generate a score specific to your parameters,” Ahrar explains. “This innovative, data-driven approach empowers you to confidently evaluate, compare, and select the VPN that best meets your personal needs.”

Unique VPNScore reveals top VPN performers

VPNRanks utilizes a rigorous, data-driven approach to assign a weighted score to each VPN provider ranked in the study. The score includes an evaluation of customer satisfaction, which accounts for 80 percent of the score, and popularity, which accounts for 20 percent. The four key metrics used to determine overall customer satisfaction include ease of use, ease of setup, ability to meet user requirements, and quality of support.

The VPNRanks report provides rankings for each of the main metrics and an overall satisfaction score. Additionally, it provides separate rankings for the global VPN market and four key regional markets: the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia.

“By analyzing user-centric data with the application of advanced algorithms, our unique approach turns complex data into a clear, actionable score,” Ahrar says. “Our comprehensive evaluation process covers key parameters to provide rankings that are both reliable and relevant.”

VPNRanks also provides a concise analysis of the scores to help users understand the strengths and weaknesses of each high-ranking provider. The VPNScore and expert analysis combine to provide a guide that cuts through the clutter of product-centric marketing and superficial reviews.

Express VPN, for example, was the highest-ranked VPN provider globally for overall satisfaction. Its 6.29 out of 10 VPNScore was derived from a 6.61 satisfaction score and a 5.03 popularity score. VPNRanks described the score as a blend of high user satisfaction and moderate popularity, “indicating a strong user experience and a solid market presence.”

When describing PrivateVPN, which ranks fourth overall, VPNRanks explains that its high satisfaction score of 6.69 and low popularity score of 1.23 suggest “an excellent user experience but poor visibility.”

“Users should choose based on their priorities, whether it’s user satisfaction, market presence, or a balanced option,” the report explains. VPNRanks gives users everything they need to make their choice with confidence.

VPNRanks guides low-tech users to the best VPN options

The report explains that nearly two-thirds of VPN users identify ease of use as crucial to overall satisfaction. Factors contributing to ease of use include a clear interface, a simple setup process, and device compatibility.

“Ease of use is a top priority for a large segment of users when selecting a VPN,” the report says. “This highlights the importance of user-friendly design in VPNs to attract and retain customers.”

Express VPN also ranked first globally for ease of use, achieving a VPNScore of 6.78 out of 10, which was derived from a satisfaction score of 6.95 and a popularity score of 6.13. VeePN, which ranked third, achieved 7.18 out of 10 for satisfaction, which surpassed ExpressVPN. However, its 0.71 popularity score left it with a 5.88 VPNScore.

“VeePN excels in user experience but needs to enhance its market visibility,” the report explains.

VPNRanks plans for future reports based on enhanced metrics

VPNRanks plans to expand the guidance provided in its initial report with broader studies involving other key indicators of quality service.

“To provide an even more in-depth exploration of the VPN landscape, we plan to incorporate additional metrics in future reports,” Ahrar says. “The goal will be to offer a holistic understanding of use experience across various VPN providers by including metrics such as pricing structures, server locations, and device compatibility considerations.”
