Wednesday Final Nationals: ‘Chicago’ Crossover Leads NBC to Its Most-Watched Wed. with In-Season Series in Over Two Years

NBC dominated Wednesday night overall with the all-night ‘Chicago’ crossover event that concluded with the series premiere of “Chicago Justice.” It’s NBC’s highest-rated Wednesday in 18-49 (1.8) with in-season series programming since November 11, 2015. In total viewers, it’s NBC’s best Wednesday (9.133 million) with in-season series programming since Nov. 12, 2014.

At 10 p.m., “Chicago Justice” equaled NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in the timeslot with series programming in more than a year (since Feb. 10, 2016, 2.0) and was television’s most-watched new drama debut in prime time since premiere week last fall (excluding Fox’s post-Super Bowl revival of “24” which aired after prime time on Feb. 5.

A special 9 p.m. edition of “Chicago P.D.” set a series record in total viewers and was the first time NBC has won the Wednesday 9 p.m. hour in adults 18-49 with scripted series programming against all originals on the Big 4 competition since in more than nine years (since Sept. 26, 2007). It also was the show’s highest 18-49 rating in more than a year (since Feb. 10, 2016, 2.0) and scored NBC’s best adult 18-49 rating in the hour with in-season series programming in more than a year (since a “Voice” special on March 9, 2016, 2.1 in the hour). “Chicago P.D.” delivered NBC’s best total-viewer result with in-season series programming in more than two years (since “Law & Order: SVU” on Nov. 12, 2014, 10.007 million).

A special Wednesday telecast of “Chicago Fire” at 8 p.m. generated NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in the timeslot with in-season scripted series programming in more than three years (since “Revolution” on Sept. 25, 2013, 1.8) and earned NBC’s best total-viewer result in the time period with in-season scripted series programming in more than two years (since “Mysteries of Laura” on Sept. 24, 2014, 10.010 million). It was also the show’s most-watched episode since Dec. 8, 2015 (9.134 million).
