Wednesday Final Nationals: ‘Full Frontal’ and ‘Rachel Maddow Show’ Both Top ‘O’Reilly Factor’ in All Key Demos

Bartolo Colon's Return to Queens Sparks Nine-Year High for SNY

CBS, with the night’s two most-watched telecasts on all of television, “Survivor: Game Changers” and “Criminal Minds”, won Wednesday prime time in total viewers (6.68 million). Fox led in adults 18-49 (1.6 rating/6 share), adults 18-34 (1.3/6) and adults 25-54 (1.9/6.0).

Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor” at 8 p.m. was the night’s most-watched cable telecast. But as the show continues to be embroiled in controversy over its host Bill O’Reilly accused of alleged sexual harassment, two others news programs bested “Factor” in all key demos: “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” (TBS) and “The Rachel Maddow Show” (MSNBC).

Leading out of a “Big Bang Theory” rerun each week, “Full Frontal” routinely bests “O’Reilly Factor” in all key adult demos on Wednesday nights but “Rachel Maddow” — which has seen increased nightly ratings since the start of the Trump presidency — also topping “O’Reilly Factor” in those same demos is of new note.

In addition, the MSNBC “Maddow” lead-out “Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” at 10 p.m. was a mere 0.02 of a ratings point short of matching “O’Reilly Factor” in the news advertiser-coveted demographic of adults 25-54.

News Programs Ratings for Apr. 5, 2017, in total viewers (adults 18-34 rating / adults 18-49 rating / adults 25-54 rating)

The O’Reilly Factor” (FOXNC): 3.606 million (0.11 / 0.28 / 0.47)

The Rachel Maddow Show” (MSNBC): 2.561 million (0.15 / 0.36 / 0.51)

Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” (MSNBC): 2.336 million (0.14 / 0.30 / 0.45)

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” (TBS): 1.209 million (0.31 / 0.42 / 0.54)

In the New York market, the Atlanta Braves-New York Mets extra-inning game drew 470,329 viewers on the regional sports network SNY. The game featured former Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon (now, a part of the Atlanta Braves) made his first start against the Mets since leaving them in this past offseason.

Braves-Mets was the most-watched SNY telecast since the Mets’ last Shea Stadium game on Sep. 28, 2008.

  1. As usual, it should be noted that no demo is “coveted” more than others by advertisers as different advertisers “covet” different customers…

I do give you kudos however for pointing out that the sad excuse for a show that is Samantha Bee (seeing the endless promos on TBS’ comedy re-runs is quite a downer) is only “successful” because of its lead-in. And it’s not really successful at all as TBW is burning off endless commercial slots to get 1.2 million viewers that it can get without advertising from network re-runs…

MSNBC seems to have been siphoning off what was left of CNN’s audience (Jeff Zucker strikes again!!) and I can’t help but wonder how much of Rachel Maddow’s audience is watching her hoping to see her implode yet again…
