Ratings Breakdown:
Veteran “Survivor” on CBS, featuring a double eviction, topped the household overnights on this first Wednesday in May, with a consistent 5.1 rating/9 share in the 8 p.m. hour. Comparably, that bested competing “Empire” on Fox (#2: 4.0/ 7) by 27 percent. “Empire,” however, is still the show to beat in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demos).

Also in the Wednesday 8 p.m. hour was NBC’s consistent “The Blacklist” (#3: 3.7/ 7), ABC sitcoms “The Goldbergs” (#4: 3.4/ 6) and recently introduced “Alex, Inc.” (#4: 2.2/ 4), and social media favorite “Riverdale” on The CW (#5: 0.9/ 2). Chances of a second season for “Alex, Inc.” are nil.

Tops at 9 p.m. was NBC granddaddy “Law & Order: SVU” at a 4.3/ 7, which beat competing “SEAL Team” on CBS (#2: 4.0/ 7) by seven percent and built from lead-in “The Blacklist” by 16 percent. Yes, a 20th season of “SVU” is highly likely.

Also in the 9 p.m. hour were ABC sitcoms “Modern Family” (#3: 3.5/ 6) and “American Housewife” (#4: 2.7/ 5), Fox’s sophomore drama “Star” (#3t: 3.1/ 5), and the final season of “The Originals” on The CW (#5: 0.7/ 1).

NBC remained in the overnight winner’s circle at 10 p.m. care of “Chicago PD” at a 4.2/ 8, which beat competing “Code Black” on CBS (#2: 3.5/ 6) and “Designated Survivor” on ABC (#3: 2.7/ 5) by 20 percent and 55 percent, respectively.
