Wednesday Overnights: CBS and NBC Tie; The Eye Net’s ‘Survivor’ Tops Night

Ratings Breakdown:
Veteran “Survivor” on CBS topped the Wednesday household overnights, as usual, with a healthy 4.9 rating/9 share. Comparably, that bested competing “Empire” on Fox (#2: 3.9/ 7) by 26 percent, but the variation in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demos) will be much closer.

Also in the Wednesday 8 p.m. hour NBC’s “The Blacklist” (#3: 3.5/ 6), which is expected back for a sixth season, ABC comedies “The Goldbergs” (#4: 3.3/ 6) and waiting-to-be axed “Alex, Inc.” (#4: 2.2/ 4), and CW social media magnet “Riverdale” (#5: 0.8/ 2).

NBC granddaddy “Law & Order: SVU,” which was just greenlit for season 20, topped the 9 p.m. hour with a 4.1/ 7 in the household overnights. Comparably, that was five percent above competing (and also renewed) “SEAL Team” on CBS (#2: 3.9/ 7).

Also in the Wednesday 9 p.m. hour was ABC sitcoms “Modern Family” (#3: 3.5/ 6) and “American Housewife” (#4: 2.8/ 5), Fox’s sophomore drama “Star” (#4: 3.0/ 5), and the final season of “The Originals” on The CW (#5: 0.6/ 1).

NBC remained in the overnight winner’s circle at 10 p.m. care of also just renewed “Chicago PD” at a 4.3/ 8, which beat competing “Code Black” on CBS (#2: 3.3/ 6) and “Designated Survivor” on ABC (#3: 2.4/ 4) by 30 percent and 79 percent, respectively.
