Ratings Breakdown:
CBS inched past second place NBC by one-tenth of a household rating point for Wednesday overnight dominance. But a Wednesday 9 p.m. edition of “The Voice” (#1: 5.0 rating/8 share), featuring night three of the playoffs, gave the Peacock net a boost. Comparably, “The Voice” increased from lead-in “The Blacklist” (#3: 4.0/ 7 at 8 p.m.) by 25 percent and it led into a dominant 4.2/ 7 for “Chicago PD” at 10 p.m.

On CBS, mainstay “Survivor,” yet another addictive edition, won the 8 p.m. hour with a consistent 5.2/ 9 in the household overnights. Comparably, “Survivor” bested competing “Empire” on Fox (#2: 4.4/ 7) by 18 percent. While “Empire” is still the show to beat in the hour in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics), it also remains down by double-digit percentages year-to-year.

“Survivor” led into a 4.6/ 7 for freshman military drama “SEAL Team” at 9 p.m., which was on par with year-ago time period occupant “Criminal Minds.” And aforementioned “Criminal Minds,” now in the Wednesday 10 p.m. hour, scored a second-place 3.7/ 7, which was on track with medical drama “Code Black” one year earlier.

Airing out of “Empire” on Fox was sophomore drama “Star” at a 2.9/ 5 (#4) at 9 p.m., which dipped by 36 percent from the 8:30 p.m. portion of “Empire.”

Over at ABC, it was Wednesday overnight business as usual care of “The Goldbergs” (#4: 3.8/ 6), “Speechless” (#4: 3.0/ 5), “Modern Family” (#3: 4.3/ 7), “American Housewife” (#3: 3.1/ 5) and sophomore drama “Designated Survivor” (#3: 2.8/ 5). Year-to-year, “Designated Survivor” was down by 30 percent in the household overnights. And The CW featured social media magnet “Riverdale” (#5: 1.0/ 2 at 8 p.m.) and newbie “Dynasty” (#5: 0.5/ 1 at 9 p.m.), which did recieve a full season episode order despite the ongoing failing ratings.
