Wednesday Overnights: Consistent Return for ‘Big Brother’ on CBS

Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this final Wednesday in June thanks to the return of “Big Brother” and should-be resuscitated medical drama “Code Black.” The two-hour season-opener of “Big Brother” scored a dominant 3.5 rating/6 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. ET, which was right on par with the 3.6/ 7 for the year-ago season premiere. That 3.6 overnight household rating on June 28, 2017 translated into 5.88 million viewers and a 1.7 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 (based on the Live+Same data data from Nielsen).

“Code Black,” meanwhile, led the 10 p.m. hour with a 3.8/ 7 in households, which beat an original installment of freshman NBC drama “Reverie” (#3: 1.3/ 2) and an encore of “Shark Tank” on ABC (#2: 1.5/ 3) by 36 percent combined. At this point, I am surprised to hear that CBS or another outlet has not revived “Code Black” for a fourth season.

Also original last night was Fox’s combination of “MasterChef” (#2t: 2.7/ 5) and just renewed “Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back” (#4: 2.4/ 4). And The CW featured canceled “The Originals” (#5: 0.5/ 1) out of a Wednesday 8 p.m. repeat of “Supergirl” (#5: 0.6/ 1).
