Wednesday Overnights: ‘Million Dollar Mile’ Left at the Starting Gate on CBS

Ratings Breakdown:
New reality/competition “Million Dollar Mile” was left at the Wednesday starting gate on CBS, with a modest 2.6 rating/5 share in households in the 9 p.m. hour. Comparably, that was 45 percent below lead-in “Survivor” (#2: 4.7/ 8 at 8 p.m.), and it was 33 percent below year-ago time period occupant “SEAL Team” (3.9/ 7 on 3/28/18). Since most new series decline 10 to 20 percent in week two, I would not get too used to “Million Dollar Mile.”

Also on CBS was relocated sophomore “SEAL Team,” which finished a distant second in the 10 p.m. hour with a 2.7/ 5. Comparably, that trailed “Chicago PD” on NBC (#1: 4.9/ 9) by 45 percent. Third in the hour was ABC’s recently introduced “Whiskey Cavalier” at a series low 2.3/ 4.

In season premiere news, the fifth (and final) season of The CW’s “Jane the Virgin” opened with a mere 0.7/ 1 in the household overnights at 9 p.m. (which led out of a 0.8/ 1 for “Riverdale”). As always, the durability of “Jane the Virgin” is a result of the critical acclaim (and not the audience size).

Elsewhere, “Chicago Med” on NBC topped the night with a 5.6/10 in households at 8 p.m. That led into an almost duplicate (and also dominant) 5.5/10 for “Chicago Fire” at 10 p.m. NBC, in fact, won all six half-hours last night.

Fox’s pairing of “Empire” (3.3/ 6 at 8 p.m.) and “Star” (#4: 2.5/ 4 at 9 p.m.) was at typical Wednesday overnight levels. And ABC’s 8-10 p.m. sitcom block was all repeats.
