Wednesday Overnights: ‘The World’s Best’ Exits with a Whimper on CBS

Ratings Breakdown:
CBS’ veteran “Survivor” topped the evening with a 4.7 rating/8 share in the overnight households in the 8 p.m. hour, which bested the return of “Empire” on Fox (#2: 3.7/ 6) by 27 percent. But the season (or, more likely, series) finale of the Eye net’s “The World’s Best” dropped the ball with a 2.5/ 4 in households from 9-11 p.m.

Also returning was Fox drama “Star,” which held 76 percent of the “Empire” lead-in with a 3.7/ 6 at 8 p.m.

On ABC, recent dramedy entry “Whisky Cavalier” won the 10 p.m. hour with a 2.9/ 5 in the overnight households. But that was 24 percent below the 3.8/ 7 one week earlier and it faced an encore telecast of “Chicago PD” on NBC (#2: 2.7/ 5).

Earlier in the evening on ABC were typical overnight levels for 8-10 p.m. sitcoms “The Goldbergs” (#3: 3.4/ 6), “Schooled” (#4: 2.6/ 5), “Modern Family” (#2: 3.5/ 6) and “Single Parents” (#4: 2.3/ 4).

Elsewhere, The CW had not unusual to report care of social media magnet “Riverdale” (#5: 0.9/ 2 at 8 p.m.) and on-the-fence “All American” (#5: 0.5/ 1 at 9 p.m.). And NBC was in all repeats.
