Wednesday Ratings Scorecard: CBS and Fox Score a Quiet Victory Opposite Repeats of NBC’s ‘Chicago’ Franchise

Wednesday, March 3, 2021 – Preliminary Ratings

Total Viewers:
CBS: 3.66 million, NBC: 3.03, ABC and Fox: 2.57 each, CW: 269,000

Adults 18-49:
Fox: 0.5 rating/4 share, ABC, CBS and NBC: 0.4/. 3 each, CW: 0.1/ 0

When NBC does not win Wednesday, there is a logical reason. The “Chicago” trio — “Chicago Med”, “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD” — were all in repeats. And the ongoing observation for the night, which is not a positive, is how far ABC’s “The Conners” has fallen since moving into the Wednesday 9 p.m. ET half-hour. The sitcom averaged 3.48 million viewers (#2) and a 0.5 rating/4 share in adults 18-49 (#1t), which was only a slight improvement in viewers from lead-in “American Housewife” (Viewers: #3, 2.64 million; A18-49: #2, 0.5/ 3 at 8:30 p.m.). Recent comedy entry “Call Your Mother” followed “The Conners” with just 2.32 million viewers (#4) and a 0.4/ 2 (#4) in the demo at 9:30 p.m.

ABC Wednesday anchor “The Goldbergs” (Viewers: #3, 3.36 million; A18-49: #1, 0.6/ 4 at 8 p.m.), meanwhile, was equally lackluster. And the second season premiere of alphabet net docuseries “The Con” was left at the 10 p.m. starting gate with 1.80 million viewers (#3) and a 0.3/ 2 in adults 18-49 (#3).

In season finale news, two-hours of the revival of Fox’s “Name That Tune” did not impress (see the averages for the night above). CBS competition series “Tough As Nails” (Viewers: #2, 3.42 million; A18-49: #3, 0.4/ 3 at 8 p.m.) does not live up to its title. CBS’ 9-11 p.m. drama combination of “SEAL Team” and “S.W.A.T.” only averaged 3.78 million viewers and a 0.4/ 3 in adults 18-49 from 9-11 p.m. And The CW featured encore telecasts of “Riverdale” and “Nancy Drew” (which are both confirmed to return next season).
