‘Westworld’ and ‘Saturday Night Live’ Lead the Primetime Emmy Award Nominations

HBO drama “Westworld” and NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” led the “69th Annual Primetime Emmy Award” nominations with 22 nods apiece. Comparably, this is the most nominations that the long-running NBC late night sketch show has ever received in a single season. Next were “Stranger Things” on Netflix and “Feud: Better and Joan” with 18 nominations each, followed by 17 for HBO comedy “Veep” (including a potential sixth consecutive trophy for Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series).

Even without “Game of Thrones” being able to compete, HBO topped the list of nominations with 110. Next was Netflix at 91, followed by NBC (60), FX (54), ABC (34), CBS (29), Fox (21), Hulu (18), Amazon Instant (16), Showtime (15), and AMC and PBS with 11 each. Eleven of the nominations for Hulu were a result of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Five newbies in the Outstanding Drama category, including “This Is Us,” “Westworld,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “The Crown” and “Stranger Things” will be competing with “Better Call Saul” and “House of Cards.” “Atlanta,” “black-ish,” “Master of None,” “Modern Family,” “Silicon Valley,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” and “Veep” are vying for Outstanding Comedy Series.

The 2017 Emmys Primetime Emmy Award will be hosted by Stephen Colbert and will air at 8 p.m. on September 17 on CBS, which is the night before the official start of the new television season.
