Xavi

Xavi Hernandez Creus is a Spanish professional football coach and former football player who is currently managing Qatar Stars League club Al Sadd. He is known as one of the best midfielders in the soccer world and is famous for his tiki-taka style of play, his ball retention, positioning and passing.

At the age of 11, Xavi took part in La Masia and debuted the first time against Mallorca in 1998. After that, he played in a total of 767 official matches with a club record and 85 goals, which led him to become the first footballer of the team to have played 150 FIFA Club World Cup and European matches combined. During his time with Barcelona, he received 4 UEFA Champions League titles and 8 La Liga titles. In 2009, he was regarded as top 3 FIFA World Player of the Year. 6 years later, he joined Al Sadd and won 4 prestigious trophies before retiring in 2019.

Xavi often receives compliments because he is super diminutive, technically skilled, agile and composed. When still being a football player, he played as a centre-back before moving to a midfield role. Despite not being renowned for being prolific in front of goal or tackling ability, Xavi’s incredible vision, positional sense, superb reading of the game, outstanding ball control and excellent off the ball movement enabled him to create many opportunities for his teammates and dictate the play’s flow in midfield while seldom relinquishing possession. In addition to that, he is also a good leader, a great playmaker and passer.

Michel Platini

Michel Francois Platini is a French former football player, coach and administrator. During his professional playing career, he won the Ballon d’Or 3 times in 3 consecutive years from 1983 to 1985; came 7th in the FIFA Player of the Century; became a Chevalier of the Legion d-honneur in 1985 and an Officer in 1998. He used to play for the clubs Juventus, Saint-Etienne and Nancy with the nickname “The King” thanks to his leadership and world-class ability.

Before becoming a prolific goalscorer, he was an advanced midfield playmaker and a key player of the France national team. In the 1984 European Championship, his club won the highest award, which made him to be the best footballer and the top scorer at that time. Along with Luis Fernandez, Jean Tigana and Alain Giresse, he created the carre magique (magic square) of his team in the 1980s.

Regarding his management career, he coached the France national team for 4 years as well as the co-organizer of the 1998 World Cup. In 2007, he was the first former footballer to be nominated as the UEFA’s president. He was also the vice-president of the French Football Federation and the chairman of FIFA’s Technical and Development Committee. However in 2015, he was no longer in the football administration due to conflict of interest.

Platini is noted for being one of the best passers as well as free kick and penalty kick specialists of all time. He is a versatile, elegant and quick offensive midfield player. He could read the game and curl the ball from set pieces. He has incredible dribbling skills, technical ability, range of passing, ball control, vision and creativity although he lacks athletic and physical attributes. He often struck the ball from such a far distance like 30 meters from the goal. He is disciplined on the pitch, therefore, during his extensive career, he was never sent off.

Marco van Basten

Marcel “Marco” van Basten is a Dutch coach and former professional footballer who played for A.C. Milan, Ajax and the Netherlands national team. In his professional career, he scored 300 goals but played his last match in 1993 due to a serious injury which made him retire 2 years later. Then, he was the head coach of the Netherlands national team and Ajax team.

Van Basten is renowned for his attacking intelligence, close ball control, spectacular volleys and strikes and impeccable headers. He won the Ballon d’Or 3 times (in 1988, 1989 and 1992) and was the FIFA World Player of the Year in 1992. He also won the Cup Winners’ Cup with Ajax, 3 European Cups with Milan, 3 Eredivisie titles and 4 Serie A titles. With the Netherlands, he earned the Golden Boot and won the UEFA Euro in 1988. Ten years later, he was regarded as top 6 FIFA Player of the Century and top 10 IFFH’ World Player of the Century. In 2007, he was the first on Sky Sports’ list of great athletes who had their careers cut short.

Taking advantage of strength, height and technical ability, Van Basten could excel well in the air while creating spectacular strikes such as bicycle kicks and volleys. He could control difficult and fast balls perfectly with one touch and even shoot right at the first time. His success rate of penalty kicks is 94.44%, the third highest in soccer history, behind Cuauhtemoc Blanco and Matthew Le Tissier.
