Winners at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards Announced

MTV announced the winners of the 2018 Video Music Awards (VMAs) during a 160-minute ceremony televised on MTV as well as on several other Viacom-owned cable networks from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Monday, August 20, 2018.

Cardi B — winner of three VMAs, including Best New Artist — kicked off the ceremony cradling what initially appeared as her newborn baby but was actually a Moon Person award.

Jennifer Lopez performed an extensive medley of her 20 years of hit songs prior to accepting this year’s Video Vanguard Award.

In an underwhelming tribute to Aretha Franklin near the close of the ceremony, Madonna recalled being at an audition (prior to achieving fame) and singing the song “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”. She later said her career would not have happened “or could have happened without our ‘Lady of Soul’…Thank you, Aretha, for empowering all of us. R-E-S-P-E-C-T.” Madonna would then present the award for Video of the Year.

The night’s guest presenters included “Night School” stars Tiffany Haddish & Kevin Hart, “Crazy Rich Asians” star Ken Jeong, Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”), Amandla Stenberg “The Hate U Give”), and Anna Kendrick & Blake Lively (“A Simple Favor”).
