Yankees-Tigers Produce Three Brawls in One Game

A case of multiple hit batsmen that stemmed from their Bronx, NY meeting on July 31 and had continued during the Aug. 24 game in Detroit led to the most combative baseball game of the year with three benches-clearing on-field brawls between the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers at Detroit’s Comerica Park on Thursday afternoon. Eight people were ejected from the game including Tigers star Miguel Cabrera and his manager Brad Ausmus, and both the Yankees manager Joe Girardi and bench coach Rob Thomson.

Although not ejected, one key suspension will likely be handed down from MLB executive offices upon Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez — in the midst of his red-hot hitting August for the playoff contender — who was seen throwing punches at two Tigers players during the fracas.

Detroit defeated New York on this day 10-6.
