‘Luther’ to Return” for Season Five on BBC America

Four New Episodes Ordered for a Planned Debut in 2018

After more than a season long absence, BBC America has announced a fifth season for British crime drama “Luther.” The new season, written by Neil Cross, will feature four episodes with Golden Globe and SAG winner Idris Elba as DCI John Luther. Filming will begin in early 2018.

“Neil, the BBC and I have been talking about a further season and I am thrilled that we have been able to bring it all together,” said Idris Elba in a statement. “I look forward to putting the coat back on.”

“Luther,” which premiered in 2010, has earned seven Emmy nominations to date. The most recent episode aired on December 22, 2015.
