NBC Retools Tuesday and Thursday; “This Is Us” Moves Back to Tuesday

After boldly announcing at its upfront it was moving “This Is Us” from Tuesday to Thursday in an attempt to bring back “Must See TV,” NBC has now decided to leave the soon-to-be sophomore relationship drama in the Tuesday 9 p.m. hour. It will lead out of “The Voice” into debuting “Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Brothers,” which was originally scheduled in the Thursday 10 p.m. hour. NBC will now feature four comedies in the Thursday 8-10 p.m. ET block – “Superstore,” “The Good Place,” the revival of “Will & Grace” and “Great News” – into “Chicago Fire.” Here are the new retooled nights:

Tuesday
8:00 p.m. “The Voice”
9:00 p.m. “This Is Us”
10:00 p.m. “Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Brothers” (new)

Thursday

  1. Talk about chickening out! That Thursday lineup will be competing with Fox for 3rd on the night in the demo. NBC was poised to take back the night. ABC also breaths a sigh of relief as this will definitely help TGIT and gives them less comedy competition in the Tuesday 9pm hour. I don’t think Black-ish is necessarily the same audience as This is Us either.

I get not wanting to have 3 networks with comedies on Tuesdays at 9 but the NBC comedies are NOT strong enough for a 2 hour block on Thursdays.
