The Arizona Cardinals’ dramatic 26-20 overtime victory against the Green Bay Packers in Saturday night’s NFC Divisional Playoff game on NBC (Women 18-34: 6.6/27; Men 18-34: 10.6/42; Women 18-49: 7.9/26; Men 18-49: 13.4/42) ranked as the highest-rated Saturday primetime Divisional game ever, according to Nielsen. The NFL introduced primetime Saturday Divisional Playoff games in the 2001 season.
In addition, NBC’s Packers-Cardinals NFC Divisional Playoff telecast (8:16-11:41 p.m. ET) averaged 33.7 million viewers to rank as the second-most watched Saturday primetime Divisional ever (34.2 million viewers for Broncos-Patriots game on CBS; Jan. 14, 2012).
The household rating and viewership for Packers-Cardinals both are +9 percent over the year-ago primetime Saturday NFC Divisional Playoff (17.2/29 and 31.0 million viewers for Panthers-Seahawks on Fox).
Viewership peaked at 38.7 million (21.8/40 rating) for the game’s dramatic conclusion from 11:15-11:41pm ET, featuring Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ Hail Mary to tie the score on the final play of regulation, and the thrilling 75-yard catch-and-run by Arizona receiver Larry Fitzgerald on the first play from scrimmage in overtime to set up his game-winning, five-yard TD catch two plays later.
For its two January 2016 playoff games, NBC averaged 34.5 million viewers, a 19.8/37 household rating, and a 10.6 rating in the coveted Adult 18-49 demographic – records for NBC in all three metrics since acquiring the Sunday Night Football package in 2006, and up +11 percent, +11 percent and +8 percent respectively from January 2015 (31.2 million viewers, 17.9/32 HH rating, 9.8 Adult 18-49 rating).
DIGITAL: NBC Sports Live Extra’s presentation of Packers-Cardinals totaled 23.7 million live streaming minutes – Live Extra’s best ever for a non-Olympic authenticated event. In addition, the 23.7 million minutes streamed is Live Extra’s most streamed NFL postseason game ever (excluding Super Bowls) and is up 74% from last year’s NBC Saturday Divisional Playoff game (13.6 million live minutes for Ravens-Patriots).
