Tuesday Overnights: CBS Wins; NBC Poised for Victory in Adults 18-49

Fox Sitcom 'LA to Vegas' Slips in Week 2

TUESDAY, JANUARY 9 2018

Household Rating/Share
CBS: 7.1/12, NBC: 5.5/ 9, ABC and Fox: 2.4/ 4 each, CW: 0.5/ 1

Note: Comparisons to the year-ago evening are excluded due to President Barack Obama addressing the nation.

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this second Tuesday in January care of the highly compatible combination of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 9.1 rating/15 share), “Bull” (#2: 6.6/11) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (#1: 5.6/10). But NBC is poised for victory in adults 18-49 (and all the key demo groups) care of its line-up of recent entry “Ellen’s Game of Games” (#2: 5.0/ 8), which was just renewed for season two, “This Is Us” (6.8/11), which featured another episode certain to keep Kleenex in business, and the always reliable “Chicago Med” (#2: 4.6/ 8). Comparably, “Ellen’s Game of Games” was right on par with its overnight debut one week earlier, and it was 16 percent above game show “The Wall” on the year-ago evening (4.3/ 7 on 1/10/17).

In week two news, Fox sitcom “LA to Vegas” slipped by 22 percent from its already modest opening with a distant fourth-place 2.1/ 3 in the household overnights in the 9 p.m. half-hour. Comparably, that was 28 percent below lead-in “Lethal Weapon” (2.9/ 5 from 8-9 p.m.), and it led into a mere 1.5/ 2 for relocated “The Mick” at 9:30 p.m.

Elsewhere, ABC had nothing unusual to report in the Tuesday overnights care of sitcoms “The Middle” (#3: 3.8/ 6), “Fresh Off the Boat” (#4: 2.5/ 4), “black-ish” (#3: 2.8/ 4) and an encore of “Modern Family” (#3: 1.9/ 3 from 8-10 p.m.), and waiting-to-be axed “Kevin (Probably) Saves the World” (#3: 1.8/ 3 at 10 p.m.). The final episodes of “The Middle” will get quite a boost, needless to say, when it moves to Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. ET on March 27 out of the return of “Roseanne.”

The CW capped off the evening with repeats of “The Flash” and “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow,” which each averaged a mere 0.5/ 1 in the household overnights.
