March 13 was Selection Monday for the 64 women’s teams; their seedings and regions were announced for the upcoming annual tournament to ultimately determine college’s women’s national champion in Division I basketball.
There will be 63 tournament games televised on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN3. The tournament’s early round games will air regionally, according to its suitable television market.
The bracket’s overall No. 1 seed, the undefeated UConn Huskies (32-0 for 2016-17), are aiming to earn a record fifth consecutive national championship, and their twelfth overall in their lauded school history. The Huskies enter the championship having won 107 straight games, the longest streak in team and NCAA Division I women’s or men’s basketball history.
South Carolina (27-4), Notre Dame (30-3) and Baylor (30-3) are the other No. 1 seeds in the tournament. A No. 1 seed for the fourth consecutive year, South Carolina is vying for its first national championship. Notre Dame, which has played in five of the last six Women’s Final Fours, is playing for its second national title. Big 12 Conference regular season champion, Baylor seeks their third overall national championship.
The Final Four semifinal and national championship title games will be held in Dallas, Tex. on Friday Mar. 31 and Sunday Apr. 2 — all three games will air on ESPN.
