2019 Tony Awards: And the Winners Were…

Musical 'Hadestown' Tops Night With 8 Tonys

Musical “Hadestown” was the top winner at the 2019 Tony Awards last night, with eight Tonys, including Best Musical. The other musicals did not go home empty-handed: Santino Fontana won as best actor in a musical for “Tootsie,” and the show’s book writer, Robert Horn, won in his category. “Ain’t Too Proud” picked up an award for Sergio Trujillo’s choreography and “Oklahoma” was cited for Best Revival of a Musical. 

“The Ferryman” was named Best Play, with “The Boys in the Band” cited for Best Revival of Play. In the acting categories for a play were wins for Best Leading Actor and Actress in a Play for Bryan Cranston in “Network” and Elaine May in “The Waverly Gallery.” Best Featured Actor and Actress in a Play were Bertie Carvel in “Ink” and Celia Kennan-Bolger in “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
