2020 Primetime Emmy Awards: And the Winners Were…

'Schitt's Creek' on Pop TV Breaks the Record Books

“Schitt’s Creek” on Pop TV opened the 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, with an astounding — and record breaking — seven for seven victory (including Outstanding Comedy Series and all four acting categories). The Canadian comedy became the first TV show in Emmy history – comedy or drama – to sweep the night.

Tops in drama was HBO’s “Succession,” with trophies for Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor (Jeremy Strong), Directing and Writing. “Watchmen,” also on HBO, was named Outstanding Limited Series, with additional wins for Regina King as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II for Supporting. “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” on HBO and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” on VH1, meanwhile, extending their winning streaks in the categories of Outstanding Variety Talk Series and Reality-Competition Program, respectively.
