What follows are the metered market (overnight) results in households by network and by half-hour for Wednesday, March 1, 2017:
Note: The following averages exclude the Pittsburgh market.
Household Rating/Share
NBC: 5.9/10, CBS: 3.3/ 6, ABC and Fox: 2.4/ 4 each, CW: 0.9/ 2
Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
NBC: +23, CW: no change, Fox: – 4, CBS: -37, ABC: -38
-Ratings Breakdown:
NBC’s triple “Chicago” crossover provided ample sampling for the debut of the fourth series in the franchise, “Chicago Justice.” Comparably, the network bested distant No. 2 CBS by 79 percent in the household overnight rating, while “Chicago Justice” (#1: 5.5 rating/10 share) beat the 10 p.m. competition combined – night two of “When We Rise” on ABC (#3: 1.3/ 2) and an encore telecast of “Bull” on CBS (#2: 2.7/ 5) – by 37 percent. Excluding the Dolly Parton TV movie this season and the night of a Presidential debate, this was the highest household rating NBC has generated in the Wednesday 10 p.m. hour all season.
“Chicago Justice” moves into its regularly scheduled Sunday 9 p.m. hour this weekend out of the season premiere of “Little Big Shots,” hosted by Steve Harvey, and into the season premiere of “Shades of Blue,” starring Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta.
An 8 p.m. edition of “Chicago Fire” opened the evening for NBC with a season-high 6.1/11 in the household overnights, leading into an identical 6.1/10 for “Chicago PD,” also a season best, at 9 p.m.
In season (or series) finale news, CBS 8 p.m. time period filler “Hunted” concluded with a third-place 2.9/ 5 at 8 p.m., which in place of “Survivor” could actually have been worse this season. The new edition of “Survivor” opens with a two-hour edition next Wednesday.
Next on CBS was veteran “Criminal Minds” at a diluted 4.2/ 7 at 9 p.m., which was down by 28 percent from the 5.8/ 9 one year earlier. If “Criminal Minds” does return next season, the network should consider moving it into a 10 p.m. time period. A repeat pf aforementioned “Bull” in place of canceled “Doubt” scored a second-place 2.7/ 5 at 10 p.m. Next Wednesday, season two of “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” begins in 10 p.m. hour.
On ABC, night two of scripted miniseries “When We Rise” tumbled to an embarrassing 1.5/ 3 in the household overnights from 9-11 p.m., which was 66 percent below the 4.4/ 7 for an 8:30 p.m. edition of “Modern Family.” Earlier in the evening on the alphabet net was “The Goldbergs” at a second-place 4.0/ 7 in the 8 p.m. half-hour.
Elsewhere, a repeat of already renewed “Lethal Weapon” on Fox (#4: 2.3/ 4 at 8 p.m.) led into a series-low 2.4/ 4 for “Star” at 9 p.m. Yes, lead-in still matters. And The CW had nothing unusual to report with its combination of “Arrow” (#5: 1.2/ 2) and “The 100” (#5: 0.7/ 1).
