Toronto Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers: LeBron James escaped earning his first first-round series loss in his career by defeating the Pacers in seven games. He and the Cavaliers now faces a Raptors team that had the best regular season record in the East this past year but has much to prove as it has yet to beat a LeBron-led team head-to-head in the playoffs.
Boston Celtics vs. Philadelphia 76ers: In a revival of a playoff rivalry from the 1980s, the Celtics and Sixers represent better versions of each team’s first-round opponent. Boston, much like Miami, is a band of hardworking, tough-nosed athletes in need of a star. Philadelphia, much like Milwaukee, are a cast of long-armed athletes who disrupt offenses through sheer force and overwhelm opponents in transition. But where Milwaukee is undisciplined and lacking a coherent system, Philadelphia is precise in its execution and bought into a set of intelligent principles. (Source: USA Today)
Golden State Warriors vs. New Orleans Pelicans: Although the defending NBA champion Warriors will be favored, Stephen Curry’s health is still questionable while the Pelicans’ rising superstars Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday may thrive in their first-ever second round playoff appearance.
Houston Rockets vs. Utah Jazz: James Harden, Chris Paul and co. will look to continue their playoff trek to validate their first-place ranking in the West against an up-and-coming Utah squad with veteran point guard Ricky Rubio, young center Rudy Gobert, and star rookie Donovan Mitchell. Under head coach Quin Snyder, Utah closed out the regular season winning 29 of their last 35 games and then eliminated the highly hyped Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round in six games.
TNT, ESPN and ABC will broadcast all the action in the United States.
All series are Best 4-out-of-7.
