The Heartbreaking Hand That Ultimately Led One to Just Miss the 2018 World Series of Poker Final Table

In the game of Texas Hold’em Poker, being dealt a pair of Kings at the start of a hand is almost always a welcome sight. So when Rich Zhu was dealt just that on July 11 during the 2018 edition of the $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event in Las Vegas and airing on the networks of ESPN as the final table of nine players was within reach, going all-in (betting his entire earnings) was an opportunity too tempting to pass up and he therefore did so.

Unfortunately for Zhu, another player named Antoine Labat also possessed a pair of Kings. Even worse, fellow player Nicolas Manion had two Aces.

Among the three players, Zhu had the least amount of chips so he was the only one to fully risk his spot in the tournament at that very moment.

The dealer’s following flop (first three cards from the deck on display on the table to associate with the players’ hands), turn (the fourth card on display) and river (fifth card) didn’t help Zhu and he was therefore eliminated, placing tenth in the Main Event and taking home more than $800,000 in prize winnings.

The Main Event Final Table for 2018 began on July 12 and is expected to conclude on July 14-15.
